birthday celebration catch up :))

So the day when I could party fo my B-day came...of course I wasn't ready with all the preparations in time, cause we had an afternoon show at the theatre...so I was late when the people started to show up. In the first pic there's Sorin in my kitchen...I'm not sure what he was doing...probably exercising some new acting method or smthing :) while I was desperate to finish all the entrees before the barbeque :)
The good thing about this reunion was probably, in the first place, the weather. It was so warm, unusual for this time of october, that we could hang out in the house yard until midnight. Perfect for having fun doing some bbque.
This is not what it seams! :)) But still...armed and dangerous!
These are the famous romanian "mici". They are a pork meat melange, spiced with different condiments. To be short, they are fabulous done on the bbque! And with beer...you just wish for more! All in all, we had a nice time together, received very nice gifts ( there're going to show up in my blog updates, that's for sure!), but the surprise of the night was the arrival of my sis and her bfriend. I knew that they couldn't come anymore, even if they promised. But they solved some problems and managed to come all the way from Brasov to Baia Mare.
Everything finished with a cheesecake (my american love), of course also made by my own two hands. The people loved it!

So we had the chance to spend some good time and enjoy a party that I desperately needed :)

Happy B-day to me! part I

Since we're approaching the day we'll have the premiere at the theatre, I really can not afford to loose not even one night with parties or stuff like that...not even for my birthday (?!)...

Just have to wait for next week to come, gather all my friends and have a good time, but FIRST I have to serve the Stage ... cause it will serve me too.

My Bf surprised many times today... I didn't expect him to, cause the "party" stuff was already planned for onother day with cake, gifts and all that. But, anyhow...I received gifts that acomplished me in all the ways possible... he made me feel very special, and kept me smiling almost all day long.

Before going to the theatre for rehearsals, we had lunch in town at a very nice place where we've never been to so far, then we just had time to go back home...and after that... put some clothes on and run at the theatre. I thought the surprises were over. But there was more to come...

hmmm...so that's a 24 years old look? :))

Happy B-day to me! - part II

Well...the real surpise came after we finished rehearsing. It was way over 10 pm...we were all tired....
I had a hardtime focusing on what I had to do on the stage, cause of my B-day...I started to wish for some kind of celebrating soooo bad, that I couldn't wait for next week to come, to have a proper party... Anyways, out play finishes with all the actors singing an italian song. So after we finished the song on the stage, some of my colleagues, including my Bf, started singing " Happy B-day to you, happy B-day dear Gabi....happy B-day to you!" . Mannnn, that was soo sweet! And then another colleague of mine came out with a birthday cake from behind a setting and my Bf with champagne... and then...
I burst into tears...
This was by far the greatest birthday surprise I ever experienced. And the fact that I could celebrate this unique day on the STAGE, as an actor, it's really a special thing, it caresses my heart!
This was the heart cake we all shared in plastic plates and spoons, a stage life :))...and had champagne ( in the same plastic glasses), we all had a good time together with smiles , hugs and happy birtday wishes. I was happy! All these surprises made me real happy! I think I fell asleep smiling, back at home! "Family pic!"
All the crew working at the play "The lovers from Ancona"...actors, stage director, choreographer, theatre director, stage designer...
(the settings are not over yet :{ there supposed to be an italian plaza)

me and Mate wearing our "Guci stage clothes" ... eating some birtday cake :)

the man that made it happen!!!

Thank you all guys for making my day memorable!

WORLD THEATRE DAY

For people like actors, directors, stage designers, anyone who acts in or for theatre, this day, the 27'th of march, it's like our second bithday... We all celebrate the WORLD THEATRE DAY. This is how it started:

World Theatre Day was created in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute, and is celebrated annually on March 27 by ITI Centers and the international theatre community, with the reading of a World Theater Day Message and various national and international theatre events being organized to mark this occasion. One of the most important of these is the circulation of the International Message traditionally written by a theatre personality of world stature at the invitation of the International Theatre Institute. The first such message was written by Jean Cocteau in 1962.

This year the World Theatre Day Message will be written by Augusto Boal . He is a Brazilian theatre director, writer and activist. He delivered the 2009 World Theatre Day message on March 25, 2009 at a celebration at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France. He is the creator of Theatre of the Oppressed , a well-known form of performance-activitism. This is his message for us:

"All human societies are "spectacular” in their daily life and produce “spectacles” at special moments. They are “spectacular” as a form of social organization and produce “spectacles” like the one you have come to see.
Even if one is unaware of it, human relationships are structured in a theatrical way. The use of space, body language, choice of words and voice modulation, the confrontation of ideas and passions, everything that we demonstrate on the stage, we live in our lives. We are theatre!
Weddings and funerals are “spectacles”, but so, also, are daily rituals so familiar that we are not conscious of this. Occasions of pomp and circumstance, but also the morning coffee, the exchanged good-mornings, timid love and storms of passion, a senate session or a diplomatic meeting - all is theatre.
One of the main functions of our art is to make people sensitive to the “spectacles” of daily life in which the actors are their own spectators, performances in which the stage and the stalls coincide. We are all artists. By doing theatre, we learn to see what is obvious but what we usually can’t see because we are only used to looking at it. What is familiar to us becomes unseen: doing theatre throws light on the stage of daily life.
Last September, we were surprised by a theatrical revelation: we, who thought that we were living in a safe world, despite wars, genocide, slaughter and torture which certainly exist, but far from us in remote and wild places. We, who were living in security with our money invested in some respectable bank or in some honest trader’s hands in the stock exchange were told that this money did not exist, that it was virtual, a fictitious invention by some economists who were not fictitious at all and neither reliable nor respectable. Everything was just bad theatre, a dark plot in which a few people won a lot and many people lost all. Some politicians from rich countries held secret meetings in which they found some magic solutions. And we, the victims of their decisions, have remained spectators in the last row of the balcony.
Twenty years ago, I staged Racine’s Phèdre in Rio de Janeiro. The stage setting was poor: cow skins on the ground, bamboos around. Before each presentation, I used to say to my actors: “The fiction created day by day is over. When you cross those bamboos, none of you will have the right to lie. Theatre is the Hidden Truth”.
When we look beyond appearances, we see oppressors and oppressed people, in all societies, ethnic groups, genders, social classes and casts; we see an unfair and cruel world. We have to create another world because we know it is possible. But it is up to us to build this other world with our hands and by acting on the stage and in our own life.
Participate in the “spectacle” which is about to begin and once you are back home, with your friends act your own plays and look at what you were never able to see: that which is obvious. Theatre is not just an event; it is a way of life!
We are all actors: being a citizen is not living in society, it is changing it. "
Augusto Boal

I will be celebrating this day by going to see a play at the theatre I work in and my boyfriend - who's an actor too- is going to read Augusto Boal's Message to the audience before the play starts... so...

Happy World Theatre Day!!!
